Initially, blackjack was not very popular in the United States. Different casinos started offering different bonuses to grab players. The first offered bonus was a 10-1 payout bonus. Later on, the hand for which this bonus was offered came to be known as, blackjack. 

In casinos, one to seven players play the game against the dealer, who faces the players from behind the blackjack table. Each player gets to play independently. The objective of the game is to get a card total which is more than the dealer’s card total but it should not go over 21. Going over 21 means busting. Whoever ‘busts’, loses the game. The dealer distributes two cards to each player and keeps two cards to herself. One of them is faced upward. 

A round starts when the first player starts playing his hand by betting a certain amount. Then he/she has two options namely, ‘hit’ or ‘stand’. ‘Hit’ means the player wants another card from the dealer. Whereas, ‘Stand’ means he/she will not require any more cards. After one player declares ‘stand’, other players get to make their decisions as well. Then the dealer exposes her second card. If it is less than the player’s hand, she has to hit. If it is more than that, she needs to stand. After that, the hands of both the dealer and the players are compared. Whichever’s hand-value is more and not exceeding 21, wins the game. If the player wins, his/her bet gets doubled. Then a new round starts.

The basic strategy is undoubtedly the most important blackjack strategy. For, every decision of the player, be it hit, stand, split, double-down, or surrender, is entirely dependent on the basic strategy. Regardless of the fact that the player is playing in a land-based casino or an online one, the basic strategy is a must for blackjack.
